Old Blackout Joe(1942)

Old Blackout Joe is a classic animated short that follows a hapless air-raid warden in Harlem during a blackout. When every light in the neighborhood goes dark on command, one stubborn lantern flame refuses to cooperate. Joe embarks on a frantic battle to extinguish it, chasing the mischievous flame as it evades him at every turn—hiding on his finger, smoldering under his hat, and scorching his foot with a hotfoot. The flame proves impossibly elusive, migrating from Joe's body to the lamp and eventually down into a manhole, where it becomes a makeshift searchlight that defeats all his attempts to contain it. His desperate efforts to plug the holes prove futile, especially when the light passes straight through his ears. Just as Joe prepares to destroy the lamp with TNT, the all-clear signal sounds—but his explosion still detonates, sending manhole covers flying directly onto him.
