Konstsamlaren och katastrofen tells the true story of how Sweden lost a world-class art collection. Swedish private collector Theodor "Teto" Ahrenberg acquired works directly from modernist masters including Picasso, Chagall, and Matisse, befriending the international art elite. His outsider status and ambitions put him at odds with Sweden's establishment art world, particularly Pontus Hultén, director of the Modern Museum. Determined to prove his vision, Ahrenberg commissioned Le Corbusier, the legendary architect, to design a museum in Stockholm that would house his extraordinary collection. The film chronicles the clash between a visionary collector and institutional gatekeepers, and the consequences that followed.
