NYman with a Movie Camera(2010)
NYman with a Movie Camera is a visual essay that pairs Michael Nyman's acclaimed 2002 score—originally composed for Dziga Vertov's silent Soviet masterpiece—with new video footage shot over twenty years. Rather than a straightforward remake, the film creates a contemporary montage that echoes Vertov's celebration of urban life and human activity, but through a modern lens. Nyman and editor Max Pugh weave together their own observations of the world, building a kinetic meditation on how cinema captures everyday moments. The result is both homage and reimagining: a film that honors the experimental spirit of the original while charting how cities, people, and technology have transformed since Vertov's era.
