Gutter(1996)

Gutter is a Polish film conceived by Krzysztof Kieślowski that follows two isolated souls: Sebastian, a lonely 10-year-old boy, and Eugene, a retired elevator operator struggling to survive. Despite their age gap, both face similar hardship—abandoned by family, fighting to get by in an indifferent world. Their lives intersect when a French pianist loses a 500-franc note into a deep sewage grate. Desperate for the money, Sebastian and Eugene become rivals, employing deception and occasional cooperation in their quest to retrieve it. As their struggle unfolds, the two gradually expose their vulnerabilities to each other, forging an unexpected bond. The film explores loneliness, survival, and the unlikely connections that form between people pushed to the margins.
