Free Hands(2010)

Free Hands is a documentary following Barbara, a filmmaker embedded in a Paris-area prison who mentors long-term inmates through the filmmaking process. Twice weekly, she conducts interviews with prisoners who will write and direct their own screenplay, transforming their lived experiences into cinema. The film captures an unconventional creative partnership—one that challenges both the inmates and Barbara herself as they navigate vulnerability, storytelling, and the possibility of artistic redemption within prison walls.
