Les enfants du pays is a French drama set in May 1940, as Nazi forces prepare to invade France. In an abandoned village in the Ardennes, elderly Gustave lives with his teenage grandchildren Camille and Etienne, relishing his solitude and control over the empty hamlet. While young Etienne remains indifferent, Camille struggles against her grandfather's tyranny and isolation. Their quiet existence shatters when a patrol of Senegalese soldiers arrives in the deserted village. The film explores the collision between Gustave's rigid worldview and the wider currents of war, as family tensions deepen and unexpected bonds form amid the chaos of invasion.
