Soldier Jack, or The Man Who Caught Death in a Sack(1989)
Wickety-wak, into my sack!
Soldier Jack, or The Man Who Caught Death in a Sack is a fantasy film rooted in Appalachian folklore. Set in the late 1940s, it follows Jack, a World War II veteran who receives two magical gifts as reward for his kindness: a sack that captures anything and a jar that predicts whether the sick will live or die. When Jack uses the sack to trap Death itself and saves the president's daughter from illness, he becomes a national hero. Yet years of a deathless world bring unforeseen consequences—endless aging, suffering without end. Jack must grapple with the natural order he's disrupted and decide whether to release Death back into the world, accepting mortality as the price of a truly livable existence.
