There Are No Deserters(1970)

There Are No Deserters is a 1944 war film set in the Greek islands during World War II. Captain Jason lands secretly on an occupied island to scout German defensive positions ahead of an Allied invasion. He connects with local resistance fighters to gather intelligence, but the Germans discover his presence and arrest twelve civilians, threatening to execute them unless he surrenders. As the deadline approaches, a man long thought to be a deserter emerges from hiding and sacrifices himself, restoring his family's honor and allowing Jason's mission to continue.
