Potemkine 3 is an experimental film that reimagines Sergei Eisenstein's silent classic by replacing its original imagery with entirely new footage shot by director Jean-Marie Buchet. Retaining all of the intertitles from Battleship Potemkin, Buchet pairs these historical text cards with unrelated contemporary views, creating a radical disjunction between word and image. The result is a provocative deconstruction that echoes Situationist strategies of détournement—the deliberate subversion of existing cultural works.
