Weltschmerz(2018)

Weltschmerz is a short drama set during the Holocaust that follows a concentration camp prisoner facing execution after a failed escape attempt. An SS officer prepares to make an example of her before the assembled camp. The film cuts between this brutal reality and a parallel world where two children play innocently by a German creek, their obliviousness contrasting sharply with the horrors unfolding nearby. The film explores the collision between childhood innocence and the machinery of genocide, building toward a devastating final act. Emotionally intense and character-driven, Weltschmerz examines how evil operates in plain sight, even as some remain untouched by its reach.
