The Running Man is a dystopian action film set in 2017, where a collapsed global economy has transformed the U.S. into a totalitarian police state. The government controls the masses through brutal televised game shows featuring convicted criminals fighting for survival. The centerpiece is The Running Man itself, a gladiator-style competition hosted by the merciless Damon Killian, where "runners" must evade relentless "stalkers" and dodge certain death for a chance at pardon and freedom. Trapped in this nightmarish spectacle, the protagonist must outwit both the hunters and the corrupt system that created them.
