Superstition(1919)

Superstition is a silent drama following Militza, a circus dancer whose beauty and misfortune spark tragedy wherever she goes. After a jealous clown stabs a man who loves her, Militza flees to a quiet village and finds refuge with a local priest—who soon falls under her spell. When lightning strikes him dead during Mass, his vengeful mother blames Militza and drives her from town. Desperate, Militza joins a theatrical troupe, then boards a ship where she encounters the troupe's leader again; the vessel sinks and he perishes. Rescued by a nobleman, Militza finally discovers peace and genuine love on his estate. But the priest's mother's thirst for revenge proves unstoppable. She stokes superstition among the villagers, turning them into a mob that stones Militza to death. A tragic tale of how prejudice and fear destroy innocence.
