Summer In 1945(2003)
Summer in 1945 is a South Korean film that begins when Hwa Young receives a cryptic parcel containing an official death notice and belongings of a Japanese soldier. Among the items is a photograph showing the soldier with a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Hwa Young herself. Disturbed by the discovery, she discards the package, only to have it mysteriously reappear days later. As Hwa Young grapples with this unsettling mystery, the film explores themes of identity, historical trauma, and the lingering shadows of wartime. Set against the backdrop of post-war Korea, the narrative weaves together past and present as Hwa Young confronts questions about who she really is and what connection she might have to this unknown soldier.
