Cindy(2002)

Cindy is a modern retelling of the classic Cinderella tale, set in contemporary suburbia. The film follows Cindy, a young mixed-race girl whose Irish pilot father has mysteriously disappeared and whose mother, a "Sun Girl," remains unknown to her. Living with her cruel stepmother La Palma and two unkind stepsisters, Pétula and Tamara, Cindy finds solace in dancing the jig—a skill her father taught her. Her rare moments of freedom come with a strict condition: she must return home before midnight or face eviction. As Cindy navigates life under her stepmother's harsh rule, she discovers that her love of dance and her father's memory may hold the key to her escape.
