The Liver Birds(1969)

The Liver Birds is a British sitcom that aired on BBC1 from 1969 to 1978, with a brief revival in 1996. Created by Liverpudlian writers Carla Lane and Myra Taylor, the series follows two young women sharing a flat in Liverpool. The pair met at a local writers club and pitched their concept to BBC producer Michael Mills, who brought in director Sydney Lotterby to shape the show. Carla Lane became the primary writer, crafting most episodes while Taylor co-wrote the first two series. The Liver Birds launched as a Comedy Playhouse pilot in April 1969, part of the BBC's celebrated sitcom development strand. The show became a landmark comedy that captured the spirit of working-class Liverpool during the late 1960s and 1970s.
