Ecchan(2017)

Ecchan is a Japanese series set in 1935 Tokyo, following ten-year-old Yanagi Etsuko, a spirited girl who loves to sing. Her father Kantaro, a struggling lyricist, has withdrawn from life since her mother's death. Determined to help him move forward, Etsuko takes matters into her own hands and begins searching for a new wife and mother figure. She first attempts to matchmake her father with her teacher, Muraoka Masako, but the plan fails. Her attention then turns to Kyoko, a warm salesgirl she meets at a department store, and Etsuko grows genuinely fond of her. Just as a bond forms between them, Kantaro's sister Tsuruyo intervenes with her own agenda, pushing an arranged introduction with Kaoru, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy bank owner. Caught between Etsuko's heartfelt hopes and family obligations, the series explores love, loss, and the unexpected ways families come together.
