The District Nurse(1984)

The District Nurse is a British period drama that aired on BBC One from 1984 to 1987. Created by Julia Smith and Tony Holland, the series stars Nerys Hughes as Megan Roberts, a district nurse determined to improve conditions for residents of Pencwm, a poverty-stricken mining town in south Wales during the late 1920s. The first two series featured school scenes filmed at Pont-y-gof school in Ebbw Vale before its demolition, with local children and teachers participating. Outdoor scenes were shot in a village near Tredegar. In the third series, set in the early 1930s, Megan relocates to the seaside town of Glanmor, where she works alongside a father-and-son medical team, Emlyn and James Isaacs. The show captures the struggles of working-class communities through the eyes of a dedicated healthcare worker navigating social hardship and limited resources.
