The Bell Telephone Hour is a musical variety series that aired on NBC from 1959 to 1968, presenting Broadway, classical, concert, jazz, and popular music performances each week. Hosted by the Bell Telephone Orchestra under conductor Donald Voorhees, who composed the show's theme "The Bell Waltz," the program featured some of the era's finest musicians. Violinists including Isaac Stern, Yehudi Menuhin, and Ruggiero Ricci performed alongside celebrated singers like Bing Crosby, Mary Martin, and Patti Page. Broadcast in black and white, the series evolved through multiple time slots over its nine-year run, beginning as a monthly Friday-night program before shifting to weekly and bi-weekly schedules. The show continued a tradition established by its radio predecessor, which ran from 1940 to 1958, both sponsored by Bell Telephone Laboratories. The Bell Telephone Hour became a showcase for America's most accomplished performers during the golden age of television variety programming.
