Whoops Baghdad(1973)

Whoops Baghdad is a British comedy series that aired on the BBC in early 1973, starring Frankie Howerd. Set in medieval Baghdad, the show follows the same comedic formula as Howerd's earlier hit Up Pompeii!, transplanting the action from Ancient Rome to a fantastical Middle Eastern setting. Despite its promising premise, Whoops Baghdad struggled to find an audience and was cancelled after just six episodes, making it a largely forgotten entry in British television history. The series was originally titled Up Baghdad but was renamed due to concerns that the original title might be perceived as politically sympathetic to Iraq's contemporary government. All six episodes survive in the BBC archives, preserving this curious footnote in Howerd's comedy career.
