Shoebox Zoo is a British-Canadian urban fantasy series following eleven-year-old Marnie McBride, who receives a mysterious shoebox of enchanted toy animals on her birthday. The figurines—rendered in CGI—spring to life at her command, revealing themselves as magical beings on a quest to locate an ancient wizard's lost book. Part live-action adventure, part fantasy mystery, the show blends contemporary settings with supernatural elements as Marnie discovers her unexpected role in their mission. Created through a collaboration between BBC Scotland and Canadian production partners, Shoebox Zoo combines practical effects with digital animation to bring its whimsical cast of characters to vivid life.
