Crime & Punishment is a contemporary Russian series that transposes Dostoevsky's classic novel to twenty-first-century St. Petersburg. Rodion Raskolnikov, a struggling student consumed by poverty and existential despair, becomes convinced that extraordinary individuals are justified in committing terrible acts if they advance humanity. He tests this philosophy by murdering a local moneylender. Investigator Porfiry Petrovich pursues the case, determined not merely to arrest Raskolnikov but to extract a genuine confession from him. The series explores the psychological cat-and-mouse game between hunter and hunted, examining whether ideology can justify violence and whether guilt can be escaped through rationalization.
