With You I Bloom ～The shinsen-gumi youth chronicle～ is a historical series based on Tezuka Osamu's 1963 manga about Japan's legendary samurai militia. Set in 1863 Kyoto, the story follows Fukakusa Kyujuurou, a young man living peacefully at his father's teahouse until a Choshu samurai named Shonai murders his father for sheltering a pro-Shogunate warrior. Consumed by rage and grief, Kyujuurou pursues the killers but is intercepted by Isami Kondo, chief of the Shinsengumi, who cuts down one of the attackers and offers his condolences. Moved by Kondo's strength and resolve, Kyujuurou joins the Shinsengumi to seek revenge and find purpose within their ranks during a turbulent era of Japanese history.
