The 47 Ronins of Ako(1979)

The 47 Ronins of Ako is a historical drama set in eighteenth-century Japan during the reign of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. After the Tokugawa shogunate demolishes the Akō domain, ronin Hotta Hayato—a man haunted by his past—finds work as a spy for Chisaka Takafusa, chief retainer of the Uesugi clan. Tasked with monitoring the movements of Ōishi Kuranosuke and the displaced Akō samurai, Hotta becomes entangled in the political tensions between rival clans. The series explores loyalty, honor, and survival as Hotta navigates a dangerous world where his allegiances are constantly tested and the legendary story of the 47 ronins unfolds around him.
