City of the City follows Tao Wujie, a small-town graduate who starts as a bank teller in Shanghai and climbs the ranks under the guidance of seasoned financiers Zhao Hui and Miao Che. His girlfriend Tian Xiaohui pursues a parallel path in the brutal trust capital sector, where ambition and sacrifice are the price of survival.
