Martes de Carnaval is a Spanish series following Mr. Manolito and Mr. Estrafalario, characters from Ramón María del Valle-Inclán's banned plays, as they navigate the final days of Primo de Rivera's dictatorship. The two men obsessively hunt down Valle-Inclán's censored works, attending clandestine performances and discovering fragments of classics like The Daughter of the Captain—a dark comedy about disillusioned soldiers returning from Spain's lost colonies. Their quest becomes a metaphor for artistic resistance under authoritarian rule, culminating in their hope for the Second Spanish Republic as the ultimate dramatic premiere. The series captures the surreal, grotesque spirit of Valle-Inclán's esperpentos, blending literary passion with political desperation in 1920s Spain.
