Zeit zum Aufstehen is a German historical series following August Kühn, born illegitimate in 1849, as he rises from railway construction work to become a committed socialist activist. After serving in the wars of 1866 and 1870–71, Kühn finds employment with the Royal Bavarian State Railway, where he encounters class-conscious workers and begins questioning the social order. Disillusioned by hardship and injustice, he joins the Social Democratic Party, embarking on a path that will define his life. The series traces his transformation from working-class laborer to political organizer during a pivotal era of German industrialization and social upheaval, exploring themes of ambition, solidarity, and the cost of standing up for one's convictions.
