Steptoe and Son(1962)

Steptoe and Son is a British sitcom following a father and son who run a rag-and-bone business on a cluttered street in Shepherd's Bush, London. Written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, the series stars Wilfred Brambell and Harry H. Corbett as the bickering duo constantly scheming to escape their dreary lives, only to find themselves trapped by circumstance and each other. The BBC broadcast four series between 1962 and 1965, then revived the show from 1970 to 1974. Its memorable theme tune, "Old Ned," was composed by Ron Grainer. The show's blend of working-class humour and genuine pathos struck a chord with audiences, earning it a place as Britain's 15th best sitcom in a 2004 BBC poll. The format proved so successful it was remade internationally, including as Sanford and Son in America. Two feature films followed in 1972 and 1973.
