War and Beauty is a Hong Kong period drama set fifteen years into Emperor Jiaqing's reign, when the Qing court descends into intrigue despite outward stability. As a triennial concubine election looms, the emperor's favored consort Yu-Yue faces mounting threats from three rivals: Yuk-ying, an imperial descendant; Yi-Sun, the adopted daughter of a powerful eunuch; and On-Seen, a seasoned palace maid. The four women navigate a treacherous landscape of shifting alliances, oscillating between friendship and enmity as they compete for imperial favor. Their fates intertwine with two men—imperial physician Sun Bak Yeung and soldier Kong-Wu—whose connections to the women fuel palace conspiracies. Deception and ambition corrode trust and romance alike, as each character schemes to secure power and position within the palace walls.
