The Book Group is a British comedy series following Clare, a neurotic American who relocates to Glasgow and launches a book club hoping to find kindred intellectual spirits. Instead, she encounters Kenny, Dirka, Rab, Fist, and Janice—a gloriously chaotic ensemble of locals who are far more colourful and unpredictable than she anticipated. As Clare attempts to steer the group toward literary discussion, her misfit members derail proceedings with their own eccentric agendas and conflicting personalities. The series captures the collision between Clare's earnest American sensibilities and the irreverent Scottish humour of her unlikely friends, generating comedy from cultural clash and the universal awkwardness of forming genuine connections with people who couldn't be more different from yourself.
