The Fairies of Liaozhai is a Chinese television series that adapts Pu Songling's classic collection Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, bringing supernatural tales to the screen. The 40-episode series unfolds across four interconnected story arcs: Liancheng, Xia Nü, Huanniang, and Xin Shisanniang. Each arc weaves together romance, mystery, and the otherworldly as mortals encounter spirits and celestial beings. The ensemble cast includes Nicky Wu, Fann Wong, Pan Yueming, and Sun Li, among others. Produced by Chinese Entertainment Shanghai and shot between late 2006 and early 2007, the series captures the atmospheric storytelling of Pu Songling's original work, blending traditional Chinese folklore with dramatic tension and emotional depth across its interconnected narratives.
