Rocky King, Detective is an American crime series that aired on DuMont Television Network from 1950 to 1954. Broadcast live from New York City, the show followed a hard-boiled detective navigating the urban underworld. Roscoe Karns starred as King, opposite his real-life son Todd Karns, in a rare on-screen pairing that kept the veteran actor working during what could have been his retirement years. The series became one of DuMont's most popular programs, shot largely in the network's own offices and corridors to keep costs down. A running gag had King ending each episode with a brief phone call to his unseen wife Mabel, always signing off with affection for "that Mabel." The show's blend of gritty crime drama and domestic warmth made it a Sunday night staple for American viewers.
