Kaidan Horror Classics(2010)

Kaidan Horror Classics is a four-part anthology series where acclaimed Japanese directors adapt supernatural tales by literary masters. Masayuki Ochiai's take on Yasunari Kawabata's "The Arm" explores fetishism through an unsettling story of a man who borrows a woman's arm for one night. Shinya Tsukamoto brings Osamu Dazai's "The Whistler" to life, following a woman who spies on her dying sister's secret romance after her own love is destroyed by her father's interference. Lee Sang-Il examines social outcasts in Ryunosuke Akutagawa's "The Nose," depicting a priest whose grotesque appearance drives him to kill a local boy in a moment of rage. Hirokazu Kore-eda offers a more tender ghost story with Saisei Muro's "The Days After," about a couple who believe a boy visiting their home daily may be the spirit of their deceased infant son. Each director brings a distinct vision to themes of desire, loss, and the supernatural.
