Belle Époque(1995)

Belle Époque is a French historical drama set during the turn of the 20th century. Lucien Lachenay, a renowned engineer credited with building the moving sidewalk for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, rescues the elegant Alice Avellano from her violent, unstable husband. When anarchists send a young factory worker named Alphonse to assassinate him, Lucien survives and instead takes the ambitious youth under his wing as a mentor. As years pass, the lives of Lucien, Alphonse, Alice, and the spirited Laure become entangled in a complex web of rivalry, desire, and betrayal. Set against the glamour and turbulence of fin-de-siècle Paris, the film explores how ambition, loyalty, and passion collide among four people bound by fate and circumstance.
