The Public Enemy(2017)

The Public Enemy is a Japanese series following Sato Tomoko, a middle-aged high school dropout fired from her part-time job. Desperate to support her family, she impulsively decides to run for city council after learning about the generous salaries. Her opponent is Todo Makoto, a politician from an established political dynasty. Tomoko's unlikely campaign gains momentum when Hirata Kazumi, a former newspaper journalist and friend, becomes her passionate supporter, drawn to her grassroots energy and ability to connect with people. The series explores themes of ambition, class, and the messy reality of local politics through the eyes of an underdog with little experience but plenty of determination.
