Imperium: Nero(2004)

Imperium: Nero is a historical drama that traces the rise and fall of Rome's most infamous emperor. As a boy, Nero witnesses his father's murder by the mad Emperor Caligula and his mother's exile. Years later, after Caligula's death, Nero is raised by Emperor Claudius in Rome. His mother Agrippina returns and poisons Claudius, securing her son's path to power. Initially, the young emperor impresses with tax cuts and successful military campaigns in Britannia. But when he falls for a beautiful slave named Claudia Acte and abandons his betrothal to Claudius' daughter, his reign begins its descent into tyranny. As power corrupts him absolutely, Nero's grip on sanity loosens, culminating in the catastrophic burning of Rome itself.
