Astronaut Mark Watney is accidentally left behind on Mars after a devastating storm during a manned mission. Presumed dead by his crew, Watney survives alone on the hostile planet and must use his ingenuity and scientific knowledge to stay alive. Stranded thousands of miles from rescue, he faces dwindling supplies, equipment failures, and the unforgiving Martian environment.
