Chikaemon follows Monzaemon Chikamatsu, a middle-aged jōruri dramatist whose career and personal life have hit rock bottom. His wife has abandoned him, his mother has lost patience, and he drowns himself in drink. When he crosses paths with Mankichi, a charismatic gambler, the encounter sets his life on an unexpected new course. This series explores the collision between artistic ambition and the underworld, tracing how two men from opposite worlds form an unlikely bond that challenges everything Chikamatsu thought he knew about redemption and purpose.
