Evirati is a short film set in the Papal States, where a young woman disguises herself as a male castrato to perform in opera houses at a time when women are barred from the stage. Forbidden from singing publicly under her own identity, she assumes a false persona to pursue her passion for opera and claim a place in a world that denies her one. The film explores themes of artistic ambition, gender restriction, and the lengths one woman will go to in order to be heard. Set against the backdrop of historical opera tradition, Evirati examines the constraints placed on women performers and the creative defiance required to transcend them.
