Good Bye, Lenin!(2003)

Good Bye, Lenin! is a German comedy-drama set in 1990 Berlin, following Alex Kerner as he navigates an impossible situation. When his mother wakes from a coma shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Alex learns she must avoid shock to prevent another heart attack. Since she's a devoted communist, he decides to hide the truth about East Germany's collapse and the reunification sweeping through the city. Alex constructs an elaborate, increasingly absurd fiction to shield her from reality, enlisting friends and family in an elaborate charade. The film balances dark humour with genuine emotion as Alex's deception spirals, exploring themes of love, loyalty, and the cost of protecting those we care about. Director Wolfgang Becker crafts a touching portrait of a son's devotion amid one of history's most seismic political shifts.
