Fallen Leaves and Sweet Memories(1969)

Fallen Leaves and Sweet Memories follows Nobuko and five male friends after their high school graduation, when they vow to stay close forever. A year later, their lives have taken divergent paths: Nobuko struggles as a bit-part actress in television commercials, while the five men have grown beards and formed a psychedelic rock band. When Nobuko reconnects with Jun, a cartoonist who transforms his lived experiences into drawings, the group's fractured bonds begin to surface. The film explores how youthful promises collide with adult reality, capturing the bittersweet gap between who they were and who they've become. Set against Japan's vibrant 1970s cultural landscape, it's a tender meditation on friendship, ambition, and the passage of time.
