Beauty is a South African drama about François van Heerden, a middle-aged Afrikaans man trapped in emotional numbness and resigned to his own unhappiness. Convinced his life is cursed, he maintains a carefully ordered existence—until a chance encounter shatters his carefully constructed world. The film explores what happens when fate forces a man to confront the life he's built and the person he's become. Van Heerden's collision with the unexpected becomes a reckoning with his own passivity and the cost of surrendering to despair. Deon Meyer's adaptation examines masculinity, regret, and the possibility of redemption in a life that feels already written.
