Musashibo Benkei(1986)

Musashibo Benkei is a historical anime series following the legendary warrior monk's turbulent rise. Born after three years in the womb with full hair and teeth, Benkei is branded a demon by his village and abandoned. Adopted and trained by a Kyoto resident, he enters a monastery at seven but is expelled for his violent nature. Wandering Japan in search of spiritual redemption, Benkei accidentally burns a temple and vows to collect 1,000 Heike samurai swords as penance. He secures 999 weapons through brutal combat, but the final sword belongs to Yoshitsune, a deceptively young warrior whose skill matches Benkei's own. The series chronicles Benkei's transformation from outcast to legendary figure, blending action with his relentless pursuit of enlightenment across feudal Japan.
