Gloomy River traces three generations of the Gromov family across Russia. Prokhor Gromov inherits a fortune built on crime—his grandfather Danila amassed wealth through robbery, and his father Peter expanded the ill-gotten gains into legitimate business. Prokhor proves himself a ruthless entrepreneur, developing Siberian forests and constructing a steel mill that multiplies the family's power. Yet as his wealth grows, so does his moral corruption. The series examines how ambition and inherited sin shape a man's descent into monstrosity, exploring the cost of empire-building in a landscape as unforgiving as the Siberian wilderness itself.
