The Royal Today is a British medical soap opera and spin-off of The Royal, transporting the same hospital setting from the 1960s into the present day with an entirely new cast. Each episode chronicles a single day in real time, mirroring the daily broadcast schedule that allowed the narrative to unfold simultaneously with viewers' lives. The series premiered on ITV in January 2008, airing half-hour episodes at 4pm. While The Royal Today wove together ongoing storylines across the hospital's wards and departments, it deliberately avoided cliffhangers, focusing instead on the interconnected dramas of staff and patients.
