Mission To Kill is a jidaigeki series reviving the beloved Hissatsu Shigotonin franchise, which originally ran from the 1970s through the 1990s. After a 2007 special, this marks the first full season since 1992. Set in Edo-period Japan, the show follows Nakamura Mondo, a member of a covert team of hired assassins known as shigotonin. Makoto Fujita reprises his role as the protagonist navigating dangerous assignments and moral ambiguity in a world where killing is a profession. The series blends period drama with crime thriller elements, exploring the lives and loyalties of these shadow operatives as they carry out their deadly work in the shadows of feudal society.
