Het Blok(2004)

Het Blok is a Dutch reality series that has aired on NET 5 since 2004, adapted from the Australian format The Block. Four couples compete over 77 days to renovate and design an apartment while juggling full-time jobs, working only in evenings and weekends. Each team receives a €30,000 budget for materials like paint and fixtures. Every two weeks, the couples present one completed room for expert evaluation, with winners earning additional prizes. After 77 days, the finished apartments are assessed and auctioned to determine their final value. The couple whose apartment appreciates most in value wins an extra €50,000. Het Blok combines the pressure of tight deadlines, limited budgets, and professional judgment with the financial stakes of real estate, creating tension between ambition and practicality.
