Vivat, Naval Cadets! is a Russian historical series set in 1744, following the political machinations of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna as she seeks to secure the Romanov dynasty's future. Desperate to consolidate power, Elizabeth arranges a marriage between her nephew Peter Ulrich (Peter Fyodorovich) and a suitable European princess. When the empress becomes intrigued by a brave young guardsman named Belov, she entrusts him with a secret mission to bring important guests from Prussia to Russia. However, the cunning vice-chancellor Bestuzhev discovers the plot and coerces Belov's friend Alexei Korsak into spying on him, threatening exile and Siberia for Korsak's family if he refuses.
