El-Turk is a historical drama following Balaban, a Janissary soldier who abandons the Ottoman army after the 1683 Battle of Vienna and settles in the Alpine village of Moena, northern Italy. Caught between two worlds, Balaban becomes an unlikely advocate for the oppressed local population, using his military skills and outsider perspective to challenge the entrenched power structures that govern the region. The series explores themes of displacement, redemption, and cultural collision as Balaban navigates his new life far from the empire he once served.
