Paraíso blanco is a documentary series that traces the rise of Carlos Lehder, a Colombian drug trafficker who revolutionized the narcotics trade by establishing operations on a remote island 340 kilometers off Florida's coast during the 1970s. Lehder's empire made him one of the most powerful figures in international drug smuggling until his arrest and extradition to the United States in 1987. He became the first major Colombian drug lord to face trial in America, receiving a 30-year prison sentence. The series examines how Lehder's innovative approach to trafficking transformed the criminal underworld and his eventual release after decades behind bars.
