Gautêng-alêng-alêng is a South African comedy series centered on the G.A.T.T. Department, a government office relegated to the basement after a dramatic downsizing. Frans Roos manages the skeletal team of three: receptionist Lulu Roux, senior technician Koos Koekemoer, and junior technician Dickey Abrahams. The department answers directly to council chair Ms. Mammabolo, a demanding superior who dominates office life. Koos's wife Bessie makes frequent appearances, while the nominal messenger Poena Pieterse spends most of his time handling personal errands for Mammabolo. The series mines comedy from the absurdity of bureaucratic dysfunction, workplace dynamics, and the daily indignities faced by a forgotten government department struggling to maintain relevance and morale in its basement exile.
